Tailwinds Bicycle Club of Santa Maria

The Tailwinds Bicycle Club is a group of sociable cyclists with a variety of rides. Our rides are no-drop rides with food and drink stops. We have rides for every fitness level from flat rides around town to longer, more challenging rides.

Bicycle Safety and Giveaway Program

Each year the Club invites three to four local Elementary schools to participate in a bicycle safety essay contest. The school can select four winning essays from grades Three through Six. Teachers at the participating schools select the winners and a general assembly is held at which time the names of the winners are announced.

Tailwinds Bicycle Club members attend the assembly, give a talk on the importance of riding safely and always wearing a helmet. The winners are then presented their new bikes, helmets, and locks. The essay contests are well received by both students and staff.

The Tailwinds Bicycle Club also contributes to other bicycle related charities such as: efforts to prevent distracted driving; bikes to the local Good Samaritan shelter enabling clients to bike to and from job interviews and/or work; Marian Medical Center’s “Ride to Work” program and the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition.

Please help support this program. Join us for our annual fundraising event, the Windmill Century.
